WHO WE ARE

At the heart of Sierra Vista UMC, there has always been a need and desire to touch and transform lives as we share the Gospel and promise of Jesus Christ our Lord.  Since our planting, this church has sought to connect and interact with its neighbors and community, and periodically, the fruitfulness of God’s activity has caused this church to expand allowing for the needed space and proper facilities to continue following God’s plan for us.

Through all that we do, Sierra Vista has sought to create the space which allows this church to interact and minister within its walls, surrounding neighborhood, and to the community in which it resides.  Our Children’s and Youth ministries are vibrant, fun, and challenging, and Sierra Vista has many opportunities for parents and people of all stages and ages of life.

We continue to set our church in a position to be more welcoming and connectional with guest and congregation, offer ministries and services that seem lacking, and create areas that will allow us to share the Good News of Jesus Christ as we minister to the current needs around us.

we are united methodist

A Brief History

The United Methodist Church traces its roots to the 18th-century ministry of John Wesley, an Anglican priest in England who emphasized personal faith, disciplined spiritual growth, and service to others. The Methodist movement spread to America and formally became The United Methodist Church in 1968 through the union of Methodist traditions.

What Do United Methodists Believe?

United Methodists affirm the historic Christian faith expressed in the Apostles’ Creed. We believe in one God, the Creator and sustainer of all; in Jesus Christ, fully divine and fully human; and in the Holy Spirit, who is present and active in the world today. We also believe God’s grace and salvation are offered to all and practice open Communion, welcoming all who seek Christ.

The logo of The United Methodist Church features a cross and flame. The cross represents Jesus Christ, and the flame symbolizes the Holy Spirit, recalling the fire of Pentecost. The two flames also reflect the 1968 union that formed The United Methodist Church.
