Hero Quest taught our children that real heroes have character not capes. We took a look at the heroics of Daniel, Esther, the four friends of the paralyzed man, the widow who gave everything, and Jesus. Through their stories, the children learned about strength, courage, determination, daring and love.

HERO QUEST WAS A WEEK FILLED WITH...

 HEROES...

The Hero Questors had a chance to visit with local heroes – people, who have dedicated their lives to helping others -  and reinforced the message that heroes have character not capes. The Questors had a chance to get to know our senior pastor John Reynolds; Dr. Brad McIver of Shannon Hospital;  Caitie Wiedenhofer a.k.a. the Helmet Lady of San Angelo Safe Kids; and  Aneta Glass and her crew of 9-1-1 dispatchers from the Concho Valley Council of Governments.

SERVICE

Our Hero Questors had the opportunity to put their faith into action by participating in daily mission projects that benefited local non-profit agencies. Our sixth grade "Generals” then delivered those mission offerings to the sites each day and learned about all the good these organizations are doing in San Angelo.

Our Hero Questors brought:
200 school supply items to benefit
 Building Bridges
(the children's grief counseling program that is
part of Hospice of San Angelo)...

540 new or gently used books to benefit
the Adult Literacy Council...

194 pet-related items to benefit
the Humane Society...
754 food and food-service items to benefit
Meals for the Elderly.

In addition, the Hero Questors competed a Penny Push. Each day the Red and Blue teams squared off to see who could bring in the most pennies to benefit the fledgling VBS program at Wesley UMC. The children collected a total of $637.33 – one penny at time.

MUSIC...

AND LEARNING!!!!!

At Hero Quest Headquarters, we had 214 recruits, ranging in age from 3 years old to 12 years old. This is 34 children more than last year.

About 1/3 of the children who attended have no church home, so Hero Quest was an opportunity and an outreach.

WHAT A WONDERFUL WEEK!!!!
SV HERO QUEST SAW SOME OF GOD'S HEROES IN ACTION.

THEY WERE DISGUISED AS OUR AWESOME TEACHERS, HELPERS, MENTORS, AND DIRECTORS.

A Christian Hero is a mind through which Christ thinks, a heart through which Christ loves, a voice through which Christ speaks, a hand through which Christ helps.

"Keep alert, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love."
I Corinthians 16: 13-14

And that was what Hero Quest was all about...
preparing God's children, even the youngest, to stand firm and to be heroes for HIM!

SPECIAL THANKS TO ANN DODGEN, KEN DAHLBERG AND PAM HOLUBEC FOR TAKING THESE WONDERFUL PICTURES!!!

Special thanks to one of God's Super Heroes, Lorie Cantu, who served as this year's VBS Chairperson.  Hero Quest could not have happened without her hard work and the enthusiastic support and hard work of the 140 adult and youth volunteers.  Her crew of  volunteers cut, pasted, painted, counted, made snacks, decorated, sent postcards, led learning centers, walked with children, sang, drove the bus, and anything else that was needed to make VBS 2004 an enjoyable learning experience. Without these valuable assistants the love of God could not have been delivered to the 214 children who attended.
