Forms are now available in the Church Office for parents who are interested in having their children participate in this program.  It is a program that will extend the children’s mid-week program to include Wednesday pick-up at the two elementary schools where most of our members’ children attend: Bonham and Lamar. We will also be helping parents from other elementary schools organize car pools. Once at Sierra Vista, these kids will enjoy an hour – from 3 to 4 p.m. – to complete their homework, have a snack, and relax before the KICK program begins. We are excited about this opportunity to better serve our families.

KELLY'S KORNER

 Summer, 2010:
Three Months in Review

Summer is usually a time for kids to relax and enjoy a slower schedule, but, this summer, the kids at Sierra Vista were exceptionally active working for the Kingdom. They did everything from wash police cars to bag dog food to sort and tag used clothing. They also ate a good bit and played, too, but their hearts were so giving as they visited places like Rust Street Ministries, the Concho Valley Regional Food Bank, Meals for the Elderly, Rebuilding San Angelo, the Salvation Army, and Child Protective Services’ Rainbow Room. They put in countless volunteer hours at these local charities, also donating food items, baby items, pet food, smoke detectors, light bulbs, and used clothing.

Thank you, Sierra Vista Kids!!
You rock!!

ACOLYTE TRAINING

 Sunday, Sept. 5
10 a.m. -- Sanctuary

Kids, grades 3rd through 6th, are encouraged to participate in this important ministry. It’s a great way for kids to help during worship time!

THIRD GRADE BIBLE BASH

On Friday, September 17, in the Sierra Vista UMC Life Center from 6:00pm - 10:00pm, third-graders from Sierra Vista, Saint Luke UMC, and First UMC-San Angelo are invited to an evening of Bible games, Bible learning, and fun! Supper will be included, and kids will learn how to use their Bibles that will be presented during worship the following Sunday.

 Bible Presentations:

Sunday, September 19

Thank you to all the AMAZING Sierra Vistans who volunteered to sponsor third-graders on Bible Sunday! It is a large group of kids, and they are so blessed to have so many Church members champion their faith walks.

CHILDREN'S SABBATH:

October 17

“Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”  Matthew 18:4

Fall Volunteers Needed

Sunday school leaders for kindergarten through third-grade are needed in the area of games and, or storytelling.  Leaders can opt to have four (4) weeks on and four weeks off by co-oping with other leaders.

Children’s Church will continue during the 11:00 a.m. worship services each Sunday in the fall. Immediately following the Children’s Time in the order of worship, kindergarteners through 3rd-graders are invited to exit the Sanctuary to study a kid-friendly lesson on the same scripture discussed in “big church.” Kids will return to the Sanctuary right before the closing hymn or communion.

Parents, please volunteer to help with this important ministry to our kids!

“Thank you for your recent donation of $791.45. ...It is such a joy to see children give in such a way, and we have been truly blessed by this gift. …These pennies will purchase 4,400 pounds of food from the Food Bank… Wow! Children can do great things for Jesus.”

A Peek into the Children’s Center Nursery

We have completed the second unit of the David C. Cook (Teach Me, Show Me, Grow Me) curriculum, The Bible is God’s Special Book, and now are studying “The Bible Teaches Me How to Live”. For the next seven weeks, our focus will be:

Lesson l: Love All People

Matthew 5:43-48

Lesson 2: Forgive and Live
               Luke 7:36-50

Lesson 3: Sing, Pray, Worship!
               2 Chronicles 29:25-31

Lesson 4: Woman Gives Everything
                Mark 12:41-44

Lesson 5: Jesus Obeyed His Parents

Luke 2:41-52

Lesson 6: Hearts, Hands for Jesus

Luke 10:25-37

Lesson 7: Tabitha Helps

Acts 9:36-42

The Bible Teaches Me How to Live helps preschoolers begin the lifelong journey of what it means to live according to God’s plan.  Children will learn about showing love, worshiping, obeying, and doing good things – not simply out of moral obligation but out of a relationship with a good and personal God.  Bible stories include Jesus’ words to love our enemies from Matthew;  Jesus forgiving the woman who poured perfume on his feet from Luke;  King Hezekiah and the Israelites worshipping God from 2 Chronicles;  the widow’s mite from Mark;  Jesus’ temptations from Matthew;  Jesus obeying his parents from Luke; the good Samaritan from Luke;  and Tabitha’s kindness from Acts.

Preschoolers are like little sponges, soaking up the world around them.  They love to learn!  And compartmentalizing “God stuff” from “everyday stuff” isn’t a thought in their heads.  These stories integrate spiritual truths with everyday-early-learning skills to build a holistic foundation that everything is God’s.

Peace, love and joy!
Brenda Richardson, Director of Nursery Ministries
