Sierra Vista UMC and Alta Loma Elementary - a Community Connection Initiative
For the past six years, Sierra Vista has connected with Alta Loma Elementary to provide support and service to their staff and students. There are many rewarding ways to participate in this outreach regardless of your skills or available time.
Opportunities for Service
JOIN THE COMMITTEE-The committee meets 5-6 times during the months of August-May to plan the activities at the school.
MENTOR/LUNCH BUDDY - Meet with an assigned student one every week or every other week at their lunch time to build a relationship and encourage the student. By doing this you are serving as a positive role model as well as building their self- esteem.
TUTOR- work with a student or small group of students on a scheduled basis as directed by the teacher
TEACHER APPRECIATION-Assist or take the lead in providing luncheons a few times during the year as well as small treats in teacher’s mailboxes
PRAYER PARTNERS- agree to lift up in prayer an assigned staff person and their students and communicate with them on email to know their prayer needs and to encourage them with prayer
CHRISTMAS in the COURTYARD- Help to organize, serve, read aloud, sing carols or help with crafts for this once yearly event held for families
CHRISTMAS GIFTS-Provide new or gently used children's books for student gifts. Help to plan, organize and distribute Christmas gifts for each student at Alta Loma
BOX TOPS AND INK CARTRIDGES- Save your Boxtops for Education and Empty Ink Cartridges and place them in the appropriate drawers in the narthex. They are redeemed for money for the school.
