Adult Sunday School Classes

VISITOR AND NEW MEMBER CLASS
Primary Age Range	All
Meeting Location	Life Center, Room 208 (an elevator is available to the second floor)
Teacher	Rev. Dr. Steven Sweet
Curriculum	This is a 4 or 5 week course, depending on how many Sundays are in the month. The first Sunday of each month will be Session #1. Each session is a stand alone session. Sessions do not have to be taken in sequence or any specific order. Participants can begin any Sunday of the month. Week # 1 (first Sunday of each month) – Life as a theological journey and the way we as United Methodist Christians do theology. An introduction to the Quadrilateral: a distinctive way of thinking about the Scripture and the life of faith. Week # 2 – The beginnings of the Methodist movement and the organization of the United Methodist Church. This session will describe and discuss the connectional church. Week # 3 - A review of the history of Sierra Vista UMC and a discussion about the meaning of membership vows taken by all new members. Week # 4 – A review of the “Discover Sierra Vista!” New Member/Inquirer Class manual. Completion of interest inventory of “opportunities for service” and “new member information sheet” for those who choose to join SV. Week # 5 – This only occurs four times annually and all those who have participated in at least one session of the introduction class will be invited to take a guided tour of the church grounds and facilities.

Other Info	No RSVP is required. This class allows participants to start with a comfortable small-group gathering, a place to ask questions, and a chance to meet pastors and staff in a more personal way.

Other Info	The Genesis Class is a class of young married couples who wish to study the word of God and apply it to their marriages, families, relationships and everyday life at work & play.

Special Projects Supported	Harvest Festival (Co-Chair bake sale), Alta Loma Angels, Emphasis on helping local not-for-profit charitable organizations (such as Meals for the Elderly, Concho Valley Regional Food Bank, ICD NewBridge Family Shelter, and CASA) throughout the year
Other Info	We are a discussion oriented class. We are a relatively small (membership currently under 20) but growing group, eager for new members.

BURNING BUSH

Curriculum	We use a lot of different books with Scripture to help with all types of life problems.
Special Projects Supported	We help with projects at the church and work with needs in the community.

Meeting Location	S-1 (Sanctuary building)
Teacher	rotates...Jimmy Stewart, Ben Woodward, Roger Ellison
Curriculum	Adult Bible Studies or other topical studies
Special Projects Supported	House of Faith, Altar Rail Fund...and the CCC class cooks the briskets and chickens for Harvest Festival and usually as a fund-raiser for House of Faith in the spring.
